Alphabet Workers Union

Helping the union find its voice and creating a platform for all members that felt both inclusive and empowering.

AWU needed a bold brand and website to reflect their strength. My team helped them find their voice and create a platform that resonated.

I initiated the project by conducting a comprehensive UX audit of the existing AWU website. I engaged in user interviews with both current and prospective union members to gather insights into their experiences and expectations. Key findings included:

  • Difficulty Accessing Information: Users struggled to find basic details about the union, such as its purpose, membership costs, and accomplishments.
  • Desire for Consolidated Resources: Members expressed the need for a more organized platform where related resources and communication tools were grouped intuitively.
  • Highlighting Achievements: There was a strong interest in showcasing the union's victories to empower members and facilitate discussions about AWU's impact.

Strategic Design and Information Architecture

When AWU fights, they win! 👊

Collaborating with Visual and Web Designer Madi Graham and Brand Designer Audrey Desler, I developed a new sitemap to enhance the website's usability. The focus was on:

  • Highlighting Achievements: Ensuring that AWU's wins were prominently displayed to inform and motivate members.
  • Consolidating Resources: Grouping related tools and information to provide a seamless user experience.
  • Intuitive Navigation: Structuring the website so that users could effortlessly find events, local chapters, and other pertinent information.

Fostering Inclusivity and Empowerment

Making sure both FTE and TVC (Contractor) employees felt valued was crucial to the implementation 🩷.

I addressed these concerns by:

  • Inclusive Representation: Featuring TVCs throughout the website content to reflect their integral role in the union.
  • Highlighting TVC Contributions: Showcasing efforts and successes of TVCs in press releases and other sections to acknowledge their impact.

This approach led to positive feedback, with TVC members expressing appreciation for seeing themselves represented on the platform.

Through strong user research, strategic design, and a commitment to inclusivity, we successfully transformed the AWU website into a user-friendly and empowering tool for all its members.
